Smile Makeover Procedures
To begin, Dr. Udoff will meet with you to discuss your aesthetic goals and perform an oral exam. He will evaluate X-rays and digital images of your entire mouth before determining the best course of action with which to move forward. Because we want you to experience long-lasting results following the conclusion of your smile makeover, we pay special attention to the composition of a patient's teeth, the alignment of his or her bite, and the space within his or her smile. By correcting existing dental complications during the initial stage of your smile makeover, we can ensure that your results will be maximized and your enhancement will appear seamless. Your treatment plan will consist of any combination of the following procedures:
- Teeth Whitening
Whitening your teeth is an excellent treatment for achieving a brighter, whiter smile. Patients may have discolored or stained teeth for a number of reasons, such as age, medications, tobacco use, or coffee, tea, soda, or wine consumption. However, professional teeth whitening can eliminate stains and transform the teeth, leaving them up to eight shades whiter. Teeth whitening is often performed at the beginning of a smile makeover, which means porcelain veneers or dental bonding can be effectively matched to the new, whiter shade. - Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are an excellent cosmetic solution for patients with cracked, chipped, broken, uneven, or badly discolored teeth. A thin, wafer-like shell made of porcelain is custom-fabricated to fit your smile and then bonded to the surfaces of the front teeth, thus concealing imperfections. The material is strong and durable, lasting up to 15 years or more with proper upkeep. Patients should have relatively healthy teeth and gums to be considered a good candidate for the treatment. Veneers are specially crafted to mimic tooth enamel for a natural-looking, beautiful, and flawless smile. - Dental Bonding
This process uses a metal-free, putty-like material that can be sculpted onto the surfaces of the teeth, restoring chipped, cracked, widely spaced, uneven, elongated, broken, decayed, damaged, or discolored teeth. The composite resin substance is color-matched to the teeth for a natural, inconspicuous appearance. Many patients choose to have old, silver dental fillings replaced with the tooth-colored bonding material for a beautiful, healthy appearance. Dental bonding is strong and durable, often lasting 10 years or more. - Invisalign® Clear Braces
A revolutionary alternative to traditional metal braces, Dr. Udoff can administer a series of clear plastic trays that gently shift the teeth into their correct position. The trays can be removed to eat, brush, or floss and are virtually undetectable to others when worn. Invisalign® can achieve the same excellent results as braces but are more comfortable, convenient, and inconspicuous. By correcting the contour of your bite, we can improve your oral health and overall health. A misaligned bite can affect more than just the appearance of a smile — it can cause migraines, headaches, facial pain, and neck pain, as well. Additionally, a misshaped bite can cause a patient to clench or grind his or her teeth, which can cause structural damage to the teeth and ultimately lead to TMJ disorder. Dr. Udoff wants to help you achieve an improved quality of life through his efforts!

Metal-Free Dental Restorations
Regain functionality with no regrets with metal-free dental restorations. When a natural tooth has become significantly damaged, restorative care is necessary in order to restore its full structure, vitality, and ability to function. At the dental office of Dr. Udoff, our team believes in holistic solutions that benefit not only oral health but long-term bodily health in general. That is why our fillings, crowns, inlays, onlays, and other services are free of potentially harmful metals and mercury. If you would like to learn more or schedule a consultation here in Middletown, NY, contact us today.
Why Should I Avoid Mercury?
Mercury has been used in dental restorations since the 1800s, and many practices still primarily offer them today because they are more affordable than their metal-free counterparts. This approach can be harmful to a patient’s overall wellbeing and continued health, though, because the dangerous effects of mercury are well-documented.
Mercury toxicity can cause allergic reactions and also have adverse effects on the kidneys and brain. This exposure heightens when the metal restoration is exposed to heat, which will occur on a daily basis when chewing hot food and brushing. This is why Dr. Udoff is committed to only offering safe, holistic dental materials to his patients that are certain to not negatively affect general health.
Other Advantages of Metal-Free Restorations
In addition to containing mercury, metallic restorations have a dark-colored appearance and will stand out in an otherwise natural smile. Porcelain and composite materials can be precisely matched to your existing enamel, which allows them to blend in seamlessly and help patients maintain a high level of confidence.
Non-metallic restorations are also, on average, more durable than the fillings and crowns they replace. They are less likely to crack and fracture over time and will not gradually pull away from the tooth’s natural structure.
Subtle Teeth Correction in Less Time With Invisalign®
Dr. Scott Udoff utilizes orthopedics to correct misaligned teeth and facial esthetics. This is known as
Gneuromuscular Orthodontics. Space must be created in both the upper and lower jaw to allow for aligning of crooked teeth. There are 6 dimensions of space.
- Front to back
- Horizontal
- Vertical height in the front teeth space
- Vertical height in the back teeth space
- Yaw space
- Roll space
In contrast to traditional orthodontics where extractions or grinding of the sides of teeth are used to make room for the aligning of teeth, we utilize the growth patterns of the bones of the skull to expand the arches to allow for alignment of teeth. Once enough space is created for the aligning of teeth, the upper and lower arches are orthopedically aligned. Alignment of the upper and lower jaws is accomplished by finding the physiologic position of the lower jaw. This is accomplished by aligning the muscles, teeth, and cranial (upper arch) to mandibular (lower arch) bones.
Traditional orthodontic treatment simply moves teeth. In contrast, gneuromuscular orthodontics addresses teeth alignment in addition to functional and skeletal problems such as proper positioning of the tongue, airway issues, skeletal discrepancies (forward head posture, facial asymmetry, shoulder imbalances, etc.), and TMJ disorders. We can do much more than simply give you an attractive smile we can create a stable bite, improved function, and quality of life. Dr. Udoff utilizes removable appliances, and depending on the needs of the patient, Invisalign® or traditional braces.

Invisalign® Clear Braces Procedure
The first step in the treatment process is the most important. Dr. Udoff will thoroughly examine your smile and review impressions, X-rays, and digital images to gain a clear understanding of your condition. He will then map out your Invisalign® treatment plan, which goes as follows:
- Your records are sent to the Invisalign® laboratory, where a 3D digital model of your smile is created
- A virtual simulation of the teeth shifting into their ideal position is used to customize the series of aligners
- The aligners, along with the simulation, are sent back to our office, where you return to pick them up
- Dr. Udoff provides detailed instructions on wearing the aligners and proper maintenance
- The aligners are worn over the teeth for at least 20 hours a day and can be taken off for brushing, flossing, or eating
- Approximately every two weeks, the next aligner in the series is worn, moving the teeth as necessary
- Regular checkups with Dr. Udoff are scheduled to check your progress throughout treatment
The length of time required for treatment depends on each individual patient but can last from six months to two years. The result after treatment is a beautiful, aligned smile. Dr. Udoff will instruct you to wear a removable retainer after treatment to keep teeth in their new position.
Candidates for Invisalign® Clear Braces
The best way to learn whether Invisalign® is right for your needs is to meet with Dr. Udoff for a consultation. Ideal candidates include teens or adults who may be self-conscious about wearing traditional metal braces but still want to correct orthodontic issues, such as:
- Crooked or twisted teeth
- Various instances of malocclusion (overbite, underbite, crossbite, etc.)
- Misaligned jaw
- Widely spaced teeth/gaps in between teeth
- Overcrowded teeth
Invisalign® Clear Braces candidates should have relatively healthy teeth or gums and have all of your natural teeth. As the aligners are removable, patients also need to have the self-discipline to wear the aligners for the appropriate amount of time, as well.
Benefits of Invisalign® Clear Braces
Among other benefits, Invisalign® Clear Braces:
- Are subtle enough to not be noticed by most of the people you come in contact with daily
- Are removable, allowing you to eat and drink anything you want
- Are comfortable, as the smooth plastic will not irritate your tongue or cheeks
- Make maintaining good oral hygiene easy since you can brush and floss as you would normally
- Eliminate the risk of food or bacteria becoming trapped like it often does with traditional brackets
- Are customized just for your smile
- Enhance confidence both during and at the end of treatment
Risks or Side Effects of Invisalign® Clear Braces
Dr. Udoff will discuss any potential complications with you prior to beginning treatment, although there are no serious risks associated with Invisalign®. Patients may experience mild irritation when a new aligner is worn. However, any discomfort is temporary and can be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication.
Patients must also remember to wear your retainer post-treatment, as the teeth will otherwise shift back into their original position. Good oral hygiene is important throughout treatment in order to ensure the teeth remain healthy and strong. Dr. Udoff will provide instructions to help you maximize success.
